Have the only car I still truly love, because a rant follows:
Questions:
When you go to the store for groceries, do you expect a discount because you've shopped there before?
Do you like to make casual jokes about price & the vendors' income before entering a business transaction?
When dining out, do you ask if you can supply your own food, and if so, is it then guaranteed to satisfy?
When you go to the doctor, do you feel entitled to angrily haggle the bill because you could have just looked it up on WebMD?
If you have a contractor do a job for you after you agree to and sign an estimate, do you then complain upon the jobs' completion (within said estimate) that it cost too much and that you could have done it yourself for less with lumber from the internet?
If you buy a washing machine with a warranty, and are clearly warned that it and its warranty could be affected by known faulty house wiring that you decline to have repaired, and it then fails as you had been warned it could, do you then feel entitled to a shiny new washing machine, for free? Do you favor yelling as a negotiating tactic?
If so, you must have a car in the shop this week. Except that nobody does these things, unless it's to auto shops. Why is this? There are many (many) things wrong with the automotive industry, but goddammit we're not all criminal grease monkeys. For every bastard, there are 10 good guys just trying to help. I just want to fix the damn car, man. It can't be free, I'm doing the best I can while keeping the business solvent. If you want to do it yourself, by all means do so, I encourage it. Otherwise, I didn't build it, buy it, or break it, so leave me the fuck alone.
Plus I've been out with the flu for the last 2 days. Good week. 5 more hours, no, scratch that, 7 more hours because I have to do payroll. I fucking hate this industry. It's taken my enthusiasm (and arguably my faith in humanity) and just crushed it. It has to get better. It has to.

Fortunately, I still have one of these at home, so Cheers!

People just think, because dealerships like to rip them off, that indy mechanics are too.
Cars ain't cheap. They require a lot of money to fix. I'm sure if we educate the population on what actually goes on under the hood, they'd understand.

You know I often wonder this behavior my self. My mother and her husband owned a garage and I swear not one transaction occurred with out any of the above scenarios occurring.. people are down right scumbags when comes to auto-mechanics.
yet when I ran a repairer shop, no one ever tried that crap on me. and let me tell you, the margin to rip you off is probably greater in the pc repair shop than it any mechanic. not that I ever riped any one off, but the trust customers had wa smind blowing compared to what i saw hanging around the auto shop. just crazy

man, that sucks. My dad goes through that. He told me countless times I wasn't allowed to become a mechanic. People like that are on the list of why. I went it to advertising (automotive - he didn't say i had to stay away from cars lol).

Haha, these things are rampant across all customer service industries, you don't have it alone in the auto shop world.
I worked for DirecTV for a few years in the 90s and heard variations on this theme daily.
I was a Pegasus (satellite company that went under and DirecTV gave generous offers for conversions) subscriber for X years. You all are crooks for charging 19.99, I was paying 17.99!
Can I use this rusty old C-band dish I bought off my neighbor? How about this box I bought from China with no access card?
Why would I pay an installer, it's just some screws in the roof. Week later: Your service is horrible, I lose signal constantly, I'm suing
etc. etc.
Same thing when I worked for a sod farm. Same thing in security.
People just suck.

I do expect discounts because I've shopped at grocery stores before- King Soopers card
And I do joke about prices and people's wages - at restaurants all the time.
So these 2 points are not valid ;)
